With this option selected, the utility creates a separate file with the movie information. The movie data remain part of the original AVI file, which is unaffected by the conversion. This movie format provides a useful way to sample available AVI movies because they keep the AVI data file in a different location, such as a CD-ROM disc, without copying the AVI file to the hard drive. However, the converted movie file remains dependent on the original AVI file. Also, the movie file is not optimized and is not playable on MS-DOS computers.
Technical Notes
Separate movie files created by the utility consist of a resource fork with pointers to the media data. Because the movie data remain in the original AVI file, this format only requires enough disk space to create a resource fork.
